Interacting is Hard

Today, a girl decided to sit next to me in class. Whatever. I'm not mad. It happens. They're just chairs, not urinals.

But then, the unexpected happened.

She said words at me. I was not prepared for that at all and kind of accidentally stared at her all confused.

I mean, since when do people in California talk to strangers unless they absolutely have to? Since when do people talk to strangers in their lecture class for chit-chat unless they absolutely have to? Never, that's when. Whatever. It was Geography. Lots of people in that class are not from around here. Maybe she was from Texas or Canada or some far away land full of nice people.

Not having said anything all day, my voice was all not warmed up from sleep. This combined with my still startled demeanor made it hard to control the volume of my voice. The words stumbled out of my mouth before I could even think of something to say that would make a coherent sentence.

A grade of B- is not exactly something to get all excited about. I think she faked her enthusiasm about having learned my score.

Luckily, our professor broke the awkward silence by starting class. We went over the test.

She did not say goodbye to me on our way out.

  1. Hahaha, this is funny. Whenever I don't talk for a long period of time, I always end out speaking too loud!
